Excellent! I'm very pleased with quality of Sony DCRDVD-101 owner's manual. The manual has 148 pages and covers basicly everything!. Thanks again for great service!
Henry Seiden - 02/26/2009 5 of 5 Stars!
I downloaded this product and looked through it quickly with Adobe Reader v9. It is clean and a good copy. Some scanned pages are not perfectly square, but that is a minor complaint. The document schematics and board diagrams are easy to read, of good contrast. The whole file downloaded quickly. This is a good service! Sony charges about $100 for the printed version of the same manual. It is still available through their print-on-demand pro parts system, but why would you do that?

That's all right, thank you for all your trouble. Yours sincerely GL

Selecting Surround Modes
When you select a source to watch or listen to, the last Surround mode used with that source will
automatically be chosen. You may change the Surround mode at any time in several ways. One way
is to press the buttons on the remote control; press the Dolby Mode Selectorsbutton for Dolby
Pro Logic, which is always available. If you are using a source for which Dolby Digital is an appro-
priate choice, a second press of the same button will switch to that mode of operation. Pressing the
6-Axis, Stereoor Party Pre-programmed Mode Selectorsselects these modes, whose settings are
listed starting on page 51 of this manual. Another way to change the Surround mode is to press
either the Cust 1, Cust 2or Cust 3 Custom Mode SelectorsA on the remote control. These but-
tons are factory preset to Surround mode proŢle settings which have been found most pleasing to
typical users. A typical Surround mode proŢle includes the mode type, such as 70mm, or Jazz, high-
and low-frequency equalization settings, adjustments for surround and center speaker levels, amount
of time the signal is delayed before being sent to the surround speakers (an important aspect of
derived surround sound decoding), and the setting for Panorama, a special feature that can be set to
expand the width of program material in three user-selectable steps.
Operating the Citation 5.0
Note:The 5.0 will only allow appropriate choices of Surround mode; it will, as example, ignore
any Orequests for the Dolby Digital or DTS modes when the chosen program source cannot or is
not providing the appropriate signal.
Surround Mode DeŢnitions
Movie Modes
Dolby Pro Logicis the consumer version of the system used in theaters to separate two channels of
sound from a movie sound track into separate left, center, right and surround channels. In this mode,
the surround channel is mono, and limited in bandwidth. Pro Logic is a good starting point when you
are choosing a Surround mode to use when listening to a movie or a surround-encoded broadcast or
video game.
70mmis a Jim Fosgate design exclusive to Citation, based on Dolby Pro Logic. To increase the
excitement level of surround-encoded materials, the 70mm mode uses Citation's ultra fast decoding
logic and extended bandwidth in the surround channels. In this mode the back (surround) channels
are capable of response up to 12kHz, rather than the lower limit of 7kHz mandated for Pro Logic
circuits by Dolby Laboratories. Although even higher bandwidth is possible in the surround chan-
nels, 12kHz was chosen to preserve spectral balance in your listening room (A higher frequency
range for the surrounds is not advisable as the listener is typically located closer to the speakers at
home than they would be in a mover theater.) Finally, there is some controlled blending of the
left/right front-channel information into the left and right back channels. This delivers an increased
sense of spaciousness from most sound tracks.
The 70mm mode is excellent for use with any recording or broadcast that contains matrix-sound
encoding.
6-Axis, described fully in the OMusic Modes section which follows, is an excellent surround mode
for movies, as well.
